Baby Games, I Need More Baby Shower Like I Need More Cowbell, Dress a la Peggy Olson

On Saturday night Mr. Smith and I went to another baby shower for the Masons. Marty and Shawn are being pretty tight lipped about the sex of their baby, so the O'Donnell Family hosts went all out and had a Pink vs. Blue epic battle to the DEATH. Or something like that. Everyone picked what sex they thought the baby would be and came dressed to the nines in their pink or blue best prepared to play sex games. Wait. That came out wrong.

Anywho, the first game we played, the girls had to strap pillows around their tummies, secure a potato between your knees and waddle as quickly as you could across the room to a waiting jar, and plop the potato into the mouth of the jar. Yes, it was as funny as it sounds. For some odd reason, I was good at this and helped my team score a point for the girl column!

Next, pin the diaper on the baby!

it was PRETEND, like throwing darts!

Throwing darts with an element of danger....

throwing darts blindfolded, dipsey! yep, i did terrible....

Next, the boys took their turns with the pillow plus an additional fanny pack with two bricks inside. They played Twister all done up like that!

the boys and their big tummies (side note - those two fools were roommates 20 years ago in a loft apartment about 100 feet from this location. do you suppose they ever {20 years ago whispering secrets to each other falling asleep after a night of studying, hair braiding and pillow-fights} envisioned themselves 20 years later in this scenario?)

amanda and jenny volunteered to run this competition

they boys didn't last long

At the end of the evening, the Masons let us in on their little secret and we were all able to give a big shout out and welcome baby Eli in Shawn's tummy!

it was at this moment that i remembered that i forgot to bring them an easel - WHOOPSIE

After the party we had everyone back to our house to see the new furniture. We had a nice time visiting and catching up! But Tommy is always complaining that the Venables run full steam until they hit a brick wall, but he's WRONG. I DON'T. I'm a perfect hostess at all times!

hmmm. i guess he's right after all.

Next day, my fifth baby shower in six weeks. Hooray for the Overstreets! Jenny and I very craftily plotted to both wear animal print, so imagine our surprise when we met another animal print interloper at the party!

making the pelts of wild animals look good

And - check it! My first sunburn of the year! For some reason, I didn't put the words "sunroom" and "baby shower" together. Duh.

GORGEOUS DAY, GORGEOUS BABY MAMA. i feel a little cliche, but every time i see jennifer overstreet i always blurt out HEY GORGEOUS! not because that's my thing or i can't remember her name so call or gorgeous, or really think her name is gorgeous, but because she is GORGEOUS. everyone there was so pretty! i had to wonder if i passed some strange pretty test unwittingly to be invited? (proud to say i have inside/outside gorgeous friends!)

Next up, OH BOY! It's Lola and my bi-weekly-ish date! Korea Day at the Visitor's Center! Once again, I was hungry, so once again, I didn't take any photos... until I found THIS:

PUKE. as one table-mate pointed out, he bet there were going to be a lot of soup cups back in the kitchen with one and a half rice balls in them. (see my half rice ball to the left)

But if the soup course was a stinker, the dessert more than made up for it! Fried ginger cookies with fruit! Why have I never thought of a fried cookie before?

down tha hatch

Next, evidence of my dominance as a domestic goddess, please see my new Mad Men-esque dress that I made:

what's got two thumbs and loves topstitching? *this girl* i must confess, after burning myself out on sewing amanda's wedding dress, the frock above has been cut out for a year and a half  (side note: after pulling the pieces out of my closet and evaluating the pattern and the fabric i came very close to throwing the whole thing away {no joke}. this is how burned out/cross-eyed i was after the wedding dress: i hadn't followed the pattern, and pieces i needed to cut three and four out of i had only cut two and three! *shudders in shame* i thought i had already tossed the excess fabric 1.5 years ago, but fortunately i had the good sense not to. i had enough to spare and after some assembly, i have a new peggy olson dress!)

Well, I guess that's it for now. I have nothing but a big nap and maybe a new dress planned for next weekend and am looking forward to some time off!

Over and atcha,

M
