Good-ness... I'm out of breath!

Busy week in the Smith Casa...

For those of you who know me, you know how I celebrate my curly hair. I straightened it for years, but now have given up and love that I have a mop of hair on my head. The other night I was at a party and a fellow frizz-head, Jane Tolhurst, asked for a photo of the two corkscrews, 'cause she likes the tousled-top too. See?

we love being mop-tops

However! The other day I went to get my hair cut and colored by my FAB stylist, Cindy Lou:

seriously, she's da bomb. we've sent more business her way...

And Cindy had been double booked. I got bored in about two seconds and had access to her flat iron so....

here is what i look like with straight hair. it's so flat! i looked like i was on heroin.

Next! For those of you who have been paying attention, you'll know that my friend Amanda is getting married next month! YEA! I'm maid of honor too - the first time I've EVER been maid of honor - I was lucky enough to be Mrs. Rachel Williams Samulski's MATRON of honor, but 'maid of honor' sounds more fun, so Amanda said we're going with that for their ceremony. Here's their wedding Web site. On Friday, Dr. Candace White, Mrs. Jane Tolhurst, and Ms. Barbara Crowder had a party for them!

Now, those of you who know me know... that I'm scared of Candace White. I AM. She was my professor in college and she scared the be-hey-soose outta me. But in recent years we've gotten to be colleagues and friends and I'm not so scared anymore! She even helped me get my last job! (ahem. she walked in my office without saying hello and said "do you want to run a non-profit?"

me: "duuurr....."

candace: "my friend is the president of a board that needs a director, hold on, let me get her on the phone."

me: "uuhhhh...."

candace: *dialing, thrusting phone in my hands*

me: "eeeehhhh..... um, hello?"

Oddly enough I got the job. The job Amanda now has! My, but this is a small world....)

See? SCARY.

AAAAAHHH!!!

Kidding. Here we are!

dude, check out her guns... girlfriend pays attention to those in her workout....

Hold on, let me zoom out:

please get used to seeing this dress i have on. it's new and i. love. it.

Next, party, party, party!!!

kristina and adina get friendly

me, becky swann (president of the board who i stuttered an interview to) and emily womac share a smile

couples showers are fun!! kristina, amanda, john and me cut up before unveiling of the gifts

my gift is conspicuous. it's the polka-dotted one.

everyone watching the gift-opening action

amanda and john a la farmer and wife

And random wackiness:

me john. love amanda.

bad flash glare, but me and ki smile pretty!

please may i always have the grace to cut-up.... seriously, if you can't laugh at yourself, who can you laugh at? oh yeah.... YOU.

Next, we went to the Mowrer's house and had a nice supper. See?

nom nom nom

Then, Jenny showed us what she was giving her step-mother for Mother's Day. It was silhouettes of all three of her grandchildren, but here are ones of Rowdy and Lottie Sue (I don't have all three!):

sweet. in a sweet way, not sarcastic.

I thought they were wonderful! I asked Jenny about them and she told us that the guy who did them Clay Rice (sidebar! At Mother's Day lunch today I was relaying this story to my Auntie and Uncle who said that a renowned silhouette artist Blahbittyblah Rice did my grandmother Venable's silhouette which stayed on my grandfather's desk at work. I assume they are related - interesting!) cut out their silhouettes in LESS THAN A MINUTE. And charged $40 apiece. For less than a minute's work.

I was intrigued. I challenged the four of us to try our hands at silhouette art.

I... um... don't think any of us will be quitting our day jobs anytime soon.

here is me

and tommy... seriously, i'm the worst one...

we're missing one of matt, but seriously - i'm terrible. i'll not be earning $40 a pop anytime soon.

Next, I go for a run! Tommy and I ran out at Ijams on Saturday, and I saw a snake (I almost stomped him! But pulled short just in time!) and we saw a turtle (named him Dribbles) and a patch of four leaf clovers INCLUDING a five leaf clover! I ran today sans Mr. Smith and took my camera on the chance that I'd see a snake or a turtle. No snakes or turtles. But! I found the same patch of four leaf clovers including the five leaf clover!

four leaf cloves grow in patches! betcha didn't know that.

four leafer

double four leafer

another four leafer

there are FOUR four leaf clovers in this picture; can you see them?

Are you ready for this?

a FIVE LEAFER!!!!!

For those of you who don't know, here is where I run most of the time. It is PRETTY.

ijams. check it out.

The next day is Mother's Day! I have been occupied with a consuming project WHICH WILL BE REVEALED IN DUE TIME. So. I am ashamed to confess that I was remiss in honoring my mother on this hallowed day. Tommy bought her a card, and I signed it. I showed up for lunch that she made and served to my family. She's the best Mama EVER and next year I will make up for being a slacker.

In the meantime....

Kristina showed up with a gift for my Mama and I made her say it was from "us."

i picked it out and everything. no, really. i did. ki just signed the card. really!

Then, it was time to get grub, and Mama and Kristina wouldn't go through line until all the mothers present were served. They stayed in the kitchen and worked until everyone had their food, see?

btw, i went through line second. i was hungry. i took this pic of them whilst eating my ill-gotten gains. not. kidding. i'm a jerk. a HUNGRY jerk.

If I show you this, you'll understand:

mama made SAUSAGE BALLS. i seriously could live on these bad boys...

She also made (Mama's talented, yo):

lucy some leg warmers. um... they're a-stinkin'-dorable. lucy luh-huv-ed them. WHAT A FEELIN'! (i can't get enough!) KEEP BELVIN'!!!

Then, we went fishing!

dinner's comin' up!

Kristina noted that after my failed attempt at being a silhouette artist I decide to try something new. Victoria's Secret catalog model should be my next goal! She shows how it's done:

boom-chicka-wow-wow

So I follow suit!

i need a lawrence welk bubble machine, swishy dress, mic with cord and props. eh, i make a good effort!!

I love Lawrence Welk and LOVE that he got totes spoofed last night on SNL! Wheee! Have a good week all!!
