Christmas Parade and The Nutcracker

I went to two, count 'em, TWO, Dirty Santa Gift Exchanges this week! The first was with my bunko group; the second with my Society of Professional Journalists group (it was a very professional Dirty Santa gift exchange - my garden gnome {he was named "G-nome"} was stolen the maximum three times before he found a home! No other gift in either exchange ever hit the max so I'm totes proud of my random-gift-selecting abilities!) Please check out my loot from the two parties:

lovely gloves, an obama historic victory commemorative plate, and a bottle of nit spray that shows up the lice eggs in your hair. i hope i never have to put the nit spray to use. but love that i kept trying to sell peeps on stealing it by shouting "NIT SPRAY!!! NIT SPRAY!!"

Next, it was time for the Knoxville Christmas Parade! I am lucky to count among my friends one Mr. Clinton John Woodfin, Esq. His office overlooks Gay Street and he invited us up for a bird's-eye view of the parade. It was such fun!

the tennessee theater to your right as the police escorts start the parade (police escorts. puh-lease. how three months ago.)

kristina and i enjoy the show

as does clint, ernie and mr. smith!

After, Kristina and I go downtown and get a picture in front of the fancy Knoxville tree.

The next morning I popped awake at 4 AM. The weather forecast called for snow overnight so I took a peeky-poo out the winder-shine and saw nothing amiss. I went back to bed and when Mr. Smith got up at 6:30 and whispered for me to look outside, I told him not to worry; I'd already seen the lack of snow. Imagine my surprise at 7 AM to wake up to this:

SNOOOOOOW! It's snowing, it's snowing!!!

Growing up, we were good for about one solid snowfall a year. Ever since I've been back home (five years) it's been nada. NADA. I feel cheated. I. Need. Snow. Once a year! That's all I ask!

But, I suppose it's for the best it all melted because that night, the ladies and I are scheduled to attend the ballet!

amanda womac, gina mcmurray, moi, and kristina go for some culture

It was Kristina's first trip to the ballet so we made sure to take it all in!

the orchestra pit!

And who do you think we bumped into in the orchestra pit?

ms. carol zinavage! principal keyboardist!

We were also invited up to the reception after, and I had to keep Kristina (the rube; she's such a ruffian) from sticking her mouth under the chocolate fountain.

*quit staring at me, ki... you're from ohio, they'll totes believe it about you...*

Ok so she stopped me SHUT UP. A girl needs chocolate.

here you have us looking cute (check out my bling! borrowed from kristina, of course; i'm still more of a twist-beads and sorority pin kinda gal)

Next, celebrity siting! Ms. Amy McRary!

i used to babysit for her! well, not for HER. for her son, eric (e-man). he was totes a cutie-pie; he called me "miss megan." ADORABLE.

Next, guess who we run into?

the chairman of the board, that's who! mr. clinton john woodfin, esq! doesn't he look so james bond-esque in his fancy tux?

what a fun night!

The next day we went to my parent's house for the obligatory Christmas photo and I was lucky enough to snap this sweet photo:

lucy hugging grandmother!

I tried to show of my prowess as Cool Auntie Megan by letting her borrow my boots, but Lucy was having none of it.

hooker heels ain't her thing. either that or the fact that the boots were taller than her little legs.

Then, we loaded firewood into Kristina's car!

her first camo experience.... *a tear! they grow up so quickly!*

Lastly, more Santas:

"i'm a little teapot, short and stout" claus!

"stinky" claus. this had perfume in it but i poured it out. the bottle still stinks of stinky perfume. come over and i'll let you smell for your self!

"stackey" claus! there is apparently candy in this guy... but i've never pulled him apart to find out for sure.

Next weekend: Christmas Train with my Harper in-laws! Whee! Christmas trains, the Harpers, Smiths and Venables will be involved - how can you go wrong! Stay tuned!
