Last week my parents had a party in honor of what would have been my great-aunt Eva's 100th birthday. Eva was a really neat-o lady; she never had kids or married so she took her responsibilities as Auntie to her nieces and nephews very seriously. Here is her picture:
with an airplane! i think she wanted to be an aviatrix. she was a librarian at central high school and was totes awesome. i only remember her a little bit. OMG, just remembered this story: we went to visit her at christmas one year and while we were there this man came by pushing this lady in a wheelchair (much to her chagrin). when my father ran over to find a nurse and explain the situation, she gave him the once over and said, "sir, are you a patient here?" she didn't look like she believed him when he said no.
I showed up early to drop off my uncle and go park my car at their neighbors' (my folks live up a big hill that has very little parking). My Dipsey very thoughtfully met me out at my car to give me a pair of shoes so I wouldn't have to walk through the woods in high heels. What he handed me was almost a deal-breaker though. Ladies and gentlemen I give you, for the first time ever:
my croc debut. kids, nothing says "i give up" like wearing these ungodly togs in public. i took them off and went barefoot for the party.
and maneeee mooooooree!!! oh wait a minute...

here is a real picture of my grandaddy venable - not robert neyland, as you can see
and here is my dipsey doodle catching a fish! they told me this was actually staged; that they bought the fish in town and daddy just pretended to catch it.
Saturday I went to The Hearing and Speech Foundation's 3rd Annual Away-Game Tailgate Party. While the UT Vols played the UF Gators in the swamp, we went to the East Club of Neyland Stadium to watch the action. All I can say is: location, location, location...

and here's the view from the other end - downtown!

THE smallest seat in neyland stadium - and allegedly, this space should occupy two fannies, not just one

And in case you thought you might miss the game in all the excitement, allow me to assure you. There are TVs everywhere.
this is in the bathroom. that's right. there's a TV in the bathroom. in case you are... ahem... otherwise occupied.
The artwork is totes awesome:

As I was leaving, I was given a bunch of balloons. I love balloons - close to my love of buttons, even. I really love balloons.
me and my balloons
Next, someone mentioned the TVA and I fair being in town and before this princess could say bibbity bobbity boo, I was magically transported THERE.
balloons work especially good at a fair! i gave them to children who asked for them, you should know. btw, did you know not many people wear dresses and high heels to the fair? i was stopped by like half a dozen tweens and told how pretty my dress was. i think it was the balloon accessories. thanks, yo!
The TVA and I fair has a special place in my heart. I couldn't tell you how old I was, but as a child my Dipsey Doodle won the regional duck calling contest at the TVA and I fair. This resulted in my very first airplane trip. The whole family went to Memphis to see Daddy compete in the state fair's duck calling competition. If only every girl was as lucky as me.
Obligatory fair inventory of junk food:
shish-ka-bobs!
ice cream sundaes dipped in chocolate rolled in nuts, plus frozen bananas!!
corn dogs and chicken on a stick! if only my bathroom had a tv in it. i'd eat fair food all day and never leave home again.
I ride the ferris wheel. I'm awfully excited about the prospect.
me and my balloons are excited, that is
AAAAAH!!!! what a big ride! oh my! is it safe for me to go on?
yes. i thankfully meet the height requirements carnies enforce.
terrible pic of me in ferris wheel, but i'm really exciiiiiiiteeeeddd!!! did i mention that i'm easily amused? (read my posts on buttons, blowing out of birthday cake candles and above reference to balloons. combine that with a ferris wheel? oh dear. happy overload. fun to the infinity of fun. squared.)
wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!! from the top of the ferris wheel!!!!!!!
Sigh. I'm the luckiest girl in the whole wide world.
