Representing the 'Chester

Last weekend was all about visiting and catching up with old friends. Tommy grew up in Winchester, Tenn. and has had from childhood a friend, Tony Shasteen. Tony is married to Sarena and they have two boys, Jay and Max. Tommy and I lived in Atlanta for two years and the four of us got to be very good friends. Since we moved back north, Tommy goes down regularly to catch up with his comic book pals and I go down as often as I can which ends up being only like once a year, unfortunately.

Last weekend was my weekend to roll in the ATL!

May I please introduce you to:

da boys. i told them to look manly and this is the best they came up with.

me and sarena. i would like to point out that this is the *only* picture of the two of us *ever* so i'm framing it.

This is what Tommy did all weekend:

played video games with the boys. sarena remembered how much fun they all had playing tekken so she rented it for them. it was fun. bloody, violent, scantily-clad women fun.

The Shasteens decided to have a get-together on Saturday night, and prepping for the party took some doing. Tony decided to break the child labor laws and make Max sit on his shoulders and dust mop the ceiling.

it was very effective, until we realized a ladder was more efficient. max was more fun though.

About eight months ago, something was in the water in the ATL.

sonya, cat and amy are all about to pop! sonya and cat's second children, amy's first. yes, i asked pregnant women to pose like charlie's angels; you got somethin' to say? what you gonna do about it?

Sarena and Tony deal on a daily basis with a lot of food issues including (but not limited to) allergies, celiac disease and lactose intolerance. Sarena is fascinated by food and how it reacts (in good and not-so-good ways) with your body. She has a blog and for those of you who deal with food issues I highly suggest you track her work here. I have pointed several friends with food issues her way and they all have appreciated her advice - you can't stump her. She told me this weekend she was really interested in food archeology and I nodded and all like I knew what she was talking about (but really I didn't. She's wicked smart when it comes to food.)

Sarena and Tony are excellent hosts; I ate myself silly at their party on jerk chicken, cornbread and black beans Saturday night. I was so stuffed I couldn't take advantage of the blueberry cobbler Sarena had made, but I wasn't going to leave the ATL without sampling the treat. So when I finished my breakfast Sunday morning, I dug the blueberry cobbler out of the fridge and started to dump a spoonful onto my dirty breakfast plate and Sarena sprang into action. I (wisely, I might add) darted out of the way. Then I sprung into action!!

sarena works on her blog while i wait for her to get finished photographing my breakfast dessert

cobbler, you are DEAD SEXY. give to me! give it to me! NO! NO!

She finishes and lets me have my cobbler.

yummy

And voila. Here we have her blog post about her delicious creation.

Thank you, Shasteens! We had a great time and will be back soon!

Now I bet you are thinking that's where the 'Chester action ends, right? WRONG. When I woke up Sunday morning I got a text telling me that friends Shawn and Marty had got engaged! I tripped excitedly downstairs to share the news... only to find everyone already knew when it was posted on Facebook at 1 AM (darnitall, blame my fabulous 10-mile run I had on Saturday morning. At 10 PM I had totally turned into a pumpkin.)

On Sunday evening we went out with Winchester native, Marty Mason and the soon-to-be Mrs. Shawn O'Donnell Hyphen Mason to celebrate!

First, we all admire Shawn's ring!

OMG says my new friend lindsay of shawn's ring. btw, the first four facts i find out from lindsay are that: #1 she met shawn through church, #2 volunteering at a homeless shelter, #3 she's a teacher, and #4 she's spending next saturday cleaning up trash. i told her that #1 i met shawn at a convent, #2 while i was a nun, #3 i got leprosy tending the um... lepers, and #4 quit being a nun when i got better. or something like that.

then shawn practices posing for the jc penny catalog while lindsay looks on in awe

even nate is impressed

Then I broke down and asked the inevitable.

the ring looks pretty on me!! i got a mani/pedi whilst in the atl.

here is the pedi part. for those of you who have met mr. purple, lookit! my toe-tees match for the first time in months!!

Perhaps you will recall a few weeks ago I took a dress to a Super Bowl Party to finish it and wear to work the next day. I was in a hurry and didn't take the time to measure (and what do we always say? Measure twice, cut once; got it! For the next five seconds until I get in a hurry, that is.) and it was too tight and I therefore had to remove all twelve seams and let out. Well, it turns out *ahem* in addition to sewing it too small, I also hemmed it too short (what'd I just say about measuring? I forgot.)

I let out and finished the dress but couldn't bring myself to go to work looking like Heather Locklear a la Melrose Place. The dress hung in the closet for a day or two until my fabulous sister in law suggested.... THIS:

adding a few extra inches on the bottom and enhancing it with the top stitching

here is the full-body shot - i wore it to work and didn't re-iron it; sorry!

I actually like it better with the bottom band details. What's that Bob Ross always said? There are no mistakes, only happy accidents! (ok, for realz, why can I remember THAT and not the measure twice thingie? Eeesshhh...)

Lastly, my tooth has been hurting for awhile (like a year). Four sets of x-rays and an endodontist visit later... no explanation. The endodontist thought that a night guard might help though and $500 later, I'm willing to try anything. I've never had an impression of my teeth made and it is disgusting. I kept gagging at the crap in my mouth and then guess what? The first mold didn't take and I had to gag through another. So here, please take a peek at:

my mouth

Night guards sound sexy, don't they?

Thank you again, Shasteens! Congratulations, Shawn and Marty!
